Clinical Herbalist Training Program
Class of 2008
The Tincture Pharmacy
Class of 2003
The Clinical Herbalist Training Program is intended for students who are interested in practicing herbalism in their communities, as well as with family and friends. Students will learn numerous diagnostic tools, as well as how to create holistic herbal treatments. Additionally, students will receive examples of intake forms, client waivers, and constitutional formulation worksheets. Students will also receive case studies and work with clients, for whom they will design botanical protocols and give dietary recommendations. Research time is required outside of class.
The CHT Program will continue to cover an herbal materia medica repertoire. The plants will be discussed in a monograph format that provides an in depth exploration of each plant including the medicinal use of the plant based on clinical observation, when it is appropriate to use each herb and when it is not, optimum extraction methods and doses, Latin, and common names. Additionally, the program will expand on physiology and pathophysiology of the endocrine system, including constitutional diagnosis and therapeutics.
Students will spend time outside of class working with plants experientially, including self-experimenting with tincture and tea formulations. The CHT Program integrates, applies, and expands on the information and concepts covered in the Professional Herbalist Training Program.
Additional topics that the CHT Program will cover include the following:
- How to establish and maintain a practice and an herbal pharmacy
- How to conduct consultations and hold safe space for clients
- The art of formulation: how to compound tea and tincture formulas
- Creating personalized acute and tonic formulas with respect to the client’s constitution
- Basic energetic tools for maintaining one’s own health and vitality
- How to follow-up with clients
- Herbal therapeutics for chronic conditions
- Physiology and pathophysiology
- Advanced Materia Medica
Although it can take many years to become established as an herbal practitioner, the skills taught in the CHT Program create a solid foundation for the practice of herbalism.
The Clinical Herbalist Training Program will be offered again in the fall of 2009.
